I'm very similar to you except I'm Asian with a round face. I used to have long long straight hair and was scared of cutting it short because I thought it would make my face look rounder. But I finally got enough courage to get it cut ultra short and it looked fabulous! Haha.. everyone loved it. the short layering around my face actually makes my cheeks look smaller and shows off my neck. check out my picture below.

Do not go too short, this will make ur face look rounder. Go up to your shoulders and have a few long layers.

i dont know if this will go with your heritage, but a cute bob with bangs is great for round heads. it flatters the face as the hair curves toward it.
