Hair help.. badly defined waves... extremely big!?

okay,,

my hair is maybe an inch or so below past my shoulers. i have some very poorly defined waves in it. and it is extremely thick, poofy and frizzy!.. like right now my hair is dry and the bottom of it sticks out to my shoulders and i have pretty wide shoulders. i am getting my hair cut tomorrow so i would like some advice on how to get it cut and what styling tools would work well to define and control my hair

Frizz Ease by John Frieda is a lifesaver!

Always rinse with the coldest water you can stand after using a shampoo and conditioner for straight hair. The cold water "locks down" the hair cuticle and makes hair appear slicker, less frizzy.

Use a weekly home remedy "hair mask." My hair dresser told me about this one and I have been hooked ever since. Mix one egg to one part mayo and one part olive oil. Make a paste and apply to hair. Wrap hair in a towel and allow to work at least 30 minutes. Rinse out and shampoo and condition as usual. Hair will have a smooth, shiny appearance.

Blow dry methodically. This can take practice and time, but it is worth it. Use a big round brush that will allow you to smooth your hair as you dry. Always blow in a downward motion. Running the dryer over hair up and down causes the cuticle to frizz and split. Divide hair into sections with curler pins and dry one section at a time.

ok it may sould grose but dont wash your hair every day ...get it damp and twist it into smallsections ...let dry or dry it and it wont be so poofy...you should be leaft with just curly hair.

I would go talk to your hairstylist or anyone that does hair. They will be able to tell you if your hair will work in the style you want. I would bring pictures of at least 3 different cuts just in case your first choice doesn't work with your hair. Changing your hair can be a good first step. Hope it works.

I hear a lot about sea salt spray. It is supposed to give your hair a rough texture which your fine hair may need. Go to a styist that can give you a "piecy" cut. You could always just cut it differently or shorter with layers. It might sound girlie but i think the result would be amazing.

if you go to a barber, you might want to try going to a hairstylist instead, he/she can cut your hair so that it grows out the way you want it.

As for getting the messy look, towel dry your hair then comb it with a wide tooth comb. After you've combed it, get some Osis Thrill fiber gum, spread it on your hands, and run your fingers through your hair, messing it up to your liking. After you've finished messing it up, spray a light layer of hairspray over it so it stays.

I realize what you mean with gel feeling weird. You don't want to go any where near gel with long hair unelse your doing a mohawk or spiking the back. THE BEST wax/styling cream I've came across is GATSBY MOVING RUBBER- (i purchased the green air rise one and have the same hair length as you.) I've tried about 10 different pomades and clays and what not and this stuff is awesome. The thing that makes it better than any other styling cream is that It's safe to touch it. It doesn't feel any different than what your hair felt like prior. - O ya it smells slightly of apples. mmmm

options, 1st is you find a picture on the internet that you like and you go to a hair place and tell them you want it cut like this. 2nd is after you shower blow dry it upside down. do not use hairspray. i don't know what kind of guy uses hair spray but ... i guess i don't know. don't cut your hair to short if you get it cut cause some of my friends did that and it looks bad. Hey maybe you could die or streak your hair funky colors too! and ther is nothing wrong with hair gel if you use the right kind. but most guys don't use hair gell unless they are spiking it.

You will look good in your most natural way. Keep it simple and sweet. Wash your hair daily with a good shampoo. I think thats all you need to do to look your best. No gels or oils are required.

If you are going to dye the underneath blonde i would recommend talkin to a hair dresser, ive done it before on my hair, which is almost black, and it turned orange.

You can angle your hair in the back, like you can ask the stylist to cut super short layers in the back and keep the the facial framed layers.

you could get clip in extensions.

I went to the web and tried to research this for you and I had no luck. Watch some old movies and you will get some ideas. That is a novel idea to do your hair like the fifties. They had some great hair styles.

Clothes are so expensive yet when new styles come along we change our wardrobes wheather we can afford it or not. Why is it we don't stay with clothes we are comfortable with? Plus paid for. The ladies on the new programs really can't wear that youthful style of the uneven cut yet they change their look and its not for the better.

There are ways to wear new trends and styles and still be "age-appropriate." The best thing to do is to have a bunch of classics and fill in with a couple trendy things that fit and flatter, and update colors that look nice on you that season.

And if you can't afford the updates that year, stay with the classic stuff and only replace what's worn out! Although places like Target make it a lot more affordable.

Society's obsession with consumerism and need to spend money on unimportant luxuries, and it seems now, clothing is somewhat of a "status symbol" The more expensive purse you have, the better you look. i would say that all the scene hair styles would work well on a black person (extentions r a must in scenesters and black girls) u just have to take a little more time straightening it then a white person takes oh and u will need a salon brand straightener

all my life, i'm used to having long hair. and before school began, i wanted to chang my hair style a bit so i cut off about 6 inches and now my hair is shoulder length and natural. the lady who did my hair SUCKED and did a BAD job of chemical straightening... so if my hair doesn't grow fast enough, do you think it's ok for me to get extensions? i am 13 going on 14 this dec. but i look a year or two older....

Yes, it is fine to get extenstions. But remember when you cut your hair, it helps your hair to grow healthier. So it may take a little longer at first. But It will grow back.

yea hair extenstions are good u can use them like they r ur real hair i mean u can shampoo them and straighten them....they last for a while too but the thing that suxs is that u either have to GLUE them in or BRAID them in so if i were u i would get them braided in. or i would just let a professional do it

go to the hairdresser and get it THINNED out, to lose the thickness.

your going to have to straighten it with the curlyness, or get the hairdresser to chemically straighten it.

Thick hair wont be a problem because the haircut is layers, you should be worried about the curls.

ask for layers, shouter layers on top of your head and thinned out to lose the thickness.

Anyway dude, if your hair is thick and curly I think you're stuck.

Try getting a flat iron and straighten your hair that way. It's worth trying but I don't think you can get it to lie flat like that pic. It looked as if his (her?) hair is naturally straight and non-poofy.

The major problem here is that you want the hair in the first place!!

But aside from that, main things that I think will help here:

Get your hairdresser to cut your hair in layers so that it sits flatter and is less poofy (show them the photo and they'll understand)

Thick hair will be trickier as it is less tameable but you just have to be more patient. If your hair is long enough then a standard ceramic straightener will straighten temporarily (until you get it wet). If you're really dedicated there's also the option of chemical straightening (expensive and tricky but long-lasting, ask your hairdresser)

Black hair dye is easy, box from the supermarket. Just try temporary stuff first to be sure you like it.

Finally, you can make hair generally less poofy with straightening and smoothing products from various hair-care brands. Ask your sister or just explore the girls aisle at the supermarket

try texturizing cream. i used tigi bed head manipulator and found that it works well. i think for the style you're going for, the bed head products are a good choice. good luck and i hope i helped

tans and gold (for your eyes)would look really good on your skin tone, peaches (on your lips and cheeks) too, pretty much anything with a little sheen and sparkle look (but not sparkles)

i cant really tell what your hair style is now or what length it is but it looks really healthy and i wouldn't even dye because its a really nice color and would be risky playing around with it.

i know many people are saying sideswept bangs but you hair seems more thin and not the exact texture for sideswept bangs (which isnt a bad thing)

It's hard to judge without seeing your face, but in my experience those who are heavier usually look better with long hair and those who are skinnier can usually pull off short hair pretty well. I think it comes down to what you'd feel most comfortable with, because I'm sure either way you'd look fine. As for attractiveness, different guys prefer different things.

it depends on your bone structure. If you have sharp features shorter hair will look great and longer will look more witch like. If you have a round face and want a "cute" look go for a short style. Long hair only looks good if it is healthy and you have the time and knowledge to style it. Short hair is starting to become very in. Go to a good hair styler and see what they think. Most know what they are doing and will know what will fit your personality and style.

You could cut it short up to your shoulder and layer it. If you cut your hair right it can look very attractive and appealing.

I think you should look at other people and see whose hair looks really good and ask them who is their stylist and go in and ask them what they think. That is what I did. My stylist took my dull colored frizzy hair and turned it into healthy and beautiful. I would follow my stylist to timbucktoo if I had to. You could always get a few stylists opinions from different shops and go with the majority. There is somewhere online that you can download your picture and pick different hair styles and see how they look on you. If you do decide to cut look into giving you hair to locks of love. Helps children with cancer have wigs. Need at least 10 in of cut hair. Make sure you put it in a ponytail before you cut it.

to start with just get it cut off to medium length then if u think it should b shorter get a little bit more and keep goin tell u like it it may take a few more minutes then normall but u want it to look good im sure yur hairdresser will under stand!

I want to get it cut short for the summer, but have had long hair for over 2 years and think I would look weird.

I JUST got my hair cut last week and I'm bored already. I flat iron it pretty often, and when I do it's pretty much FLAT. Even if I tease it, it'll just go flat. I'm gonna try and grow it out. So I have two questions.

1) What would you suggest I do in terms of style? (with the hair I have right now)

2) What kind of haircut would look good on me? (I've recently developed a liking for scene hair if that helps at all)

Coloring isn't an option at the moment because chemically straightening it had made it really weak.

chemically straightening your hair and then flat ironing it almost daily is too damaging to your hair. You need to focus on getting your hair back on track. Don't over shampoo your hair unless you have an oily scalp. Don't use too much product on your hair, that causes buildup and again too much damage. Try using hair accessories like head bands, head scarfs, pins and so forth. You'd be amazed how much a lil accessory can transform your "dull" look. Also you can pin your hair back and up.

Use deep conditioner once a week, shampoo every two days and see if you don't notice a change in the way you can manage your hair.

Also hair wax can really help your hair to stay in place if you're going for that "Scene" look. If that doesn't help check out Johnny Lavoy on Youtube.com. He shows you step by step on how to get certain scene hairstyles. Hope that helps.

You could try getting layers starting at where your bangs are to the end of your hair, but depending on how thick your hair is, they might not show up as well.

That was me!! Well, cut it about 4 in. below your shoulder. Get side bangs going to your right side. Then get layers that frame your face and go all the way around your head. That way it looks good in a pony tail too!!!

I think you would look great with a short bob. It would be very model-esque. espically with some bangs, but if you dont want short put lots of layers and bangs. If you wanted to add a little color to your hair you could get some dark caramel put in there so its not just one plain color.

Because your hair is naturally curly, DO NOT cut it short or you will look like a mushroom. No offense. LONG layers would be a good idea so it won't look as thick. :)

dont go short because if its curly then by you cutting it shorter its going to look frizzer and you can do much with it at all... thats what i did and i totally regret it!!! grrr.. lol

dont do layers, well u can but it will be hard but the parts that you cut will be frizzy and it would look weird.... i know because i did that too... i regret that also... grr LOL

i think you should let grow long/longer and then while its growing do like your curl enhancer things like you said you would and maybe some oil treatments just to keep it healthly.. you know....

yeah, I made the "short hair" mistake a few years ago (mine is also thick. Also: DO NOT WEAR BANGS! They will not lie down flat. I have it chemically straightened once a year now, and it's mid-back length. I use a de-ionizing hairdryer, and a ceramic flat iron. It keeps it pretty managable. No more "Hermione Hair" for me (Harry Potter fans will get the joke of what my hair was nicknamed at college) lol

Personally I like my hair long. If your smaller you can pull off a pixie cut though or a sexy bob like Victoria Beckham. I'd say a bob would be the hottest thing at the moment. If you want something bold without losing length bangs are a good idea as well.

If you are truly worried about your look, pick up software that allows you to put your face on a lot of options. Honestly, it really depends on you. My face has low cheekbones and I'm a bit pudgy so long hair looks better on me. Yet my sister who has the same facial shape looks best in medium to short hair. Just don't go so short that it takes forever to grow back if you don't like it.

I have hair at the moment that's just one lenght (except for a few tapers at the side that are fading out now) and I'm beginning to think it's not very fashionable... I'd like to have my hair cut into a modern style, which usually includes layers but I sometimes like to have my hair put in plaits the night before so it comes out wavy the next morning. I'm just wondering if putting in plaits would actually be possible if I had it layered. And also, I have a double crown in my hair but I would like a longer fringe that fell over my eyes (like a short emo but longer) but when I had a fringe as a child it stuck up, is there anything I can do?

If you like plaits/braids but just want a little layering, ask your hairdresser for a 35 degree or a 45 degree layer. Most cosmetologists will know what that is. Anything above a 45 will make the hair poke out of the plaits. If you still have trouble, smooth on a styling creme or wax before you braid. I reccommend KMS Styling Grit or Redken Rewind, but you must make sure you buy these products from a reputable salon because the cosmetologists can show you how to properly use those products. If you buy them from a grocery store, you'll end up with a gluey mess, trust me!

It depends on how many different layers you have in your hair. I have layered hair but the layers are closer to the bottom of my hair because it is long. However when I put my hair in plaits it still looks alright and so you could still put your hair in plaits.

i cut my hair into a pob style about 5 months ago and i loved it!

i then decided to grow my hair cos i liked the flexibilty of being able to have messy tied up hair.

but since it got to my shoulders, i absoloutly hate and i havent worn it down once.

First of all, you should NOT let boys or your friends determine how you wear your hair. You should wear it whatever way you want. I would suggest going with a medium length, that way you can still put it into a messy bun, but you won't have to worry about it being too long and gettting in your way.

I dont know what they prefer, and i don't know that short is sexy, but I do know that if you don't know that you want it long get it cut again. do what you want not what everyone else wants. I've been waiting on mine, but its so I can donate it not because i necessarilly want it long. I am getting my hair cut this weekend and I am thinking about going for layers. I have medium, shoulder length hair with bangs that I also color. I have a round face. My problem is I don't have a lot of time or energy to put into styling my hair in the morning. I was wondering if it was a lot of work to style layered hair and if it required a lot of upkeep.

Anyone out there with short to medium layered haircuts have any advice for me?

i just wash it, put in some mousse, tease a little and go. you could scrunch it, flat iron it, but it in a pony tail, all wont take long

you know what, Ive found I have to do almost less work to my layered hair. Yes there are styles that you can do that DO take time.

But if you just get out of the shower, towel dry and throw some mouse or a light spray in it, it comes out very nice, plus gives you some body because of the layers.

If you WANT to spend more time you can obviously dry with a round brush and blow dryer, you could curl the ends out or in, you could straighten it....

But in all reality it can take less then 5 minutes.

If you dont have curly or frizzy hair, you should be good to go. Wash, put a little product of your choice in and dry or air dry and go. If you have more time you can use a round brush to add some body while drying.

I love your hair! I wish I had that, lol. But if you were to change it I would do it like the first picture (the manican one) or like Kiera Knightly (I think the thrid one). It still gives you change, but both would look great still.

I think the first option is the best, because it looks like it has alot of movement. Your hair is similar to mine, and trust me, I know it's hard to find new styles!

But my hair is thin, and I can't tell from your pictures how thick your's is. If your hair is thin, be careful with layers, because the thinner your hair is, the more obvious the layers will be. [it doesn't look good]

the problem with the first one is it might not always stay curly and man you do look Donna from that 70's show (and that a compliment how old are you your gorgeous!!!)

and i think the Kira knightly one is amazing but you wont be able to get that color in less you color it. but i will look good on a red head too. and you don't have to have the bangs too just the cut. but side swept bangs are nice.

o wow you have amazing hair!! u have no idea how badly i want my hair to be that length!! i dont think u should cut it but add a little somethin to it.. well if youre askin anyways i say the best on your hair would be the frst picture.. the keira knightley one looks cute too but your hair i think would look totally stylish with the first one.. hope this helps!! and i say dont get layers because i have them and they look horribel.. depends on how youre hair is though but you should definetley get some angles and side bangs too? well thats my opinion =]

Your hair is very prettie. Looks like you keep it very healthy. I agree though, you do need a style to take it up a noch. If I was you I would go with the first one. It is adorable and it would look great on you. If not the first I would go with the 3 one. It is cute to but for you , I think the first would look best. Whatever you choose will look great. :)
