the answer is volumizer on the roots only . follow with drying your hair with your head bent over . concentrate on the root area . then work you way to the shaft and ends . after you tousle it and get it the way you want , use a freezing spray . good Luck

What I do is I take a section of hair and backcomb it and then lightly brush over it when your done so it doesnt look backcombed, but its volumized.

Although that can damage your hair a bit, so sometimes I straighten my hair the other way (like if you had layers on the left I would straighten it over to the right) and then hairspray it, and flip it back to normal.
